My current practice explores the marriage of a woven image and painting. Over the last ten years, I have been using a computer assisted Jacquard hand loom to weave my digitally manipulated photographs which I currently enhance with acrylic painting and soft pastel drawing. I find that using different media in my creative process satisfies me as a designer and an artist and feeds the emotional and technical sides of me. The subject matter of my work echoes my experiences of the world around me and refers to the natural and urban environments, passage of time, and history.
I studied fibre arts in my native Finland and painting in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I have exhibited my work internationally including the American Tapestry Alliance biennales and the Cheongju International Crafts Biennale. I am a recipient of the City of Seattle Arts Award and my work can be found in corporate and private collections. I currently live and work in Vancouver.
